Weekend getaway
================
Phuong Nam Resort has beautifully landscaped gardens. A quick daytrip to Binh Duong Province’s Phuong Nam (Southern) Resort is a breath of fresh air and a welcome change from the swelter of Ho Chi Minh City.

The three-hectare resort, about 10 kilometers from HCMC, is an ideal place for business functions and social gatherings and a perfect retreat for weekenders.

The VND30 billion (US$ 1.8 million) resort allows visitors to get back to nature and enjoy typical southern region pastoral scenes.

Visitors can stay in rustic but well-equipped houses among rice paddies.

The resort also has a charming pond with lotuses, a lush garden scattered with ancient-styled houses and a wooden swing under a canopy of century-old trees.

Familiar sounds such as the creaking of the hammock, rustling of leaves or fish splashing in the pond will summon up memories for those who grew up in the countryside.

A visit to Phuong Nam Resort would not be complete without sampling some of the area’s savory specialties and picking fruit from trees such as plum, longan, mango, star apple, mangosteen and guava.

Visitors will also be mesmerized by folk songs and learn about the southern region’s alluring cultural aspects.

The two-star resort boasts 65 rooms which range from VND320,000 to VND990,000 (US$19-$60) per night.

It also offers a high-end spa and massage parlor, a fitness room, an outdoor stage where music programs are held and a games room for children.

Besides contemplating nature, tourists can also idle their days away with a host of stress-relieving activities such as fishing, boating, swimming, jogging, karaoke, tennis and billiards.

The resort receives some 60,000 tourists a year, many of whom are foreigners.

For those wanting to try something different, a traditional Chinese noodle cart will also be on hand.

Other exclusive vegetarian dishes available at Van Canh and A Dong include fruit salads, hot pot dishes, and sweet soups.

Several new Vietnamese, European and Chinese dishes such as Lohan porridge, Lohan wheat noodles, vegetable pizza, spring rolls, tri-colored fried oyster mushrooms, and Chinese-style tofu dishes are also available.

Many lotus-based dishes are also sure to please including: curried lotus seeds, fried rice in lotus leaves, lotus sweet soup, and lotus tuber soup.
