Gold is happening every night, but they recently (few months ago) changed their door policy - no admission unless you have a table reservation. Not sure if this still applies on Sunday nights.
Sunday nights can be quite happening in Saigon as this is the night when most of the F&B service industry has their night off and they go out and party.

Regarding MC's 2 dong's worth, there really aren't as many 'fat clueless foreigners' or 'old socially inept has-beens' at Gold than there are 'saigon young wannabees'. For those two types you probably want to try Apocalypse Now or the bars on Bui Vien / De Tham... However what I call the older Vietnamese 'mafia' crowd I occasionally see at Gold hugging PRs nearly 1/3 their age... They're usually under the influence of chemicals and wearing sunglasses indoors so I suppose that would qualify as 'socially inept'.
