Think most important is language, and that will take u normally 1-2 years to be able to speak in Vn or Th (unless you attend classes and study hard, maybe 6 months to 1 year is ok). Next try to stay 3 or more months in Vn and Th, to see which culture you prefer etc.
I lived 9-10 years in jkt, 5-6 years in bkk and now retire in CM....not been to Vn yet but guess will make a sight seeing trip soon.
By the way quite a few sg guys living in CM but we are not interested in forming sg community, just sometime get together for beer or exchange info for nice food.
