What's more important minor political issues or sanuking with all the beautiful Thai girls? Current political unrest will not effect tourist areas so don't worry, be happy! I was there during New Year's bombing and it didn't effect my partying in Bangkok. Just little nuisance due to presence of security personnel around BTS and MRT stations.
