United keep tabs on Defoe

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is still keeping an eye on Jermaine Defoe's situation at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Mail are reporting that the United boss is hoping to sign a replacement for retired Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and should he miss out on his number 1 target Dimitar Berbatov, also of Tottenham, then he will turn his attention to Defoe.

The England striker could be set to leave the club with Dutch boss Martin Jol growing tired of the players unwillingness to sign a new deal.
