It was probably early 2023 that I encountered a Malay guy in a motorbike pillioning a girl (wearing a Tudung) about 16 -18 yr old in the rear backseat. I was walking alone back to my hotel in Penuin Market Area at about 11pm. He rode beside me and then suddenly stopped. He told me he had just arrived in Batam, but lost his luggage in which money and passport were all lost too. And he asks me where is the Singapore consulate in Batam. At this moment, I knew this is another scam story.

This guy was around 165cm (by my estimate coz he is seating down on the bike), wearing a silver glasses. His accent is definitely either Malaysian or Singaporean. He speak with good English (no Indonesian accent but with Malaysian/Singaporean accent). . And the gal at the backseat kept eating her ice cream and kept watching her phone. She is clearly an Indonesian or Malaysian. Because Singaporean Malay Gals seldom wear Tudung and eat ice cream at the backseat of the motorbike. (Maybe I am wrong)

As he was explaining to me his sob story, he kept looking around as I am very near my hotel already (in which the security guard knew me as I am a regular). Then due to my curiosity, I ask him how on earth did you manage to rent or get a bike when you lost all your belongings? He told me the hotel he stayed, the working staff lent it to him (Clearly this is farking HORSEHIT) so that he could ride it Batam consulate and get help. He even pull out a PINK IC to prove to me he is Singaporean. But the moment I wanted to take a closer look, he pull it back and keep it into his pocket. (It was quite dark with no street lights at that time NEAR Peniun Market). But I can almost make out its was written Chinese (Hokkien) name printed on the IC.

He asked if I could give him money to buy the ferry tickets, in which of course I told him NO…… and told I am a poor guy I do not bring so much money to Batam. In which, I am surprised that he took it quite well and left me alone. In fact, I am prepared to bait him to my hotel, because hotel have security cams and I knew all my hotel security guards and receptions. After that he rode away and left me alone.

To all Bros, next time if this happens to you, just walk to a brighter, crowded areas, shopping malls, any hotel’s lobby.
