Ok let uncle teach you. Always remember, they are purebred PRC Chinese, so always use their lingo. Some are so traditional with a mindset still stuck in ancient China dynasty eras with uncanny ability to throw off ancient poetic phrases that will leave you stunned like a vegetable wonder WTF is that? No joke. So always start with some simple polite phrases:

1) 对不起我的中文不好，请多多包涵 （of course they will reply 不会呀，你说的很好呀' but you know is 客套话)

This starting phrase is important as they will be more forgiving in your upcoming antics.

2）我有一个不情之请 or 我有一个小要求。

Next usually I'll follow by something like..:
