Galaxynet is just one of the many IRC networks in the world.
IRC is still in use albeit in smaller numbers and smaller IRC networks have close shop like Galaxynet, there is no money to make in it.
To be sure, Galaxynet isn't even consider big even in IRC heydays, it is just popular in Singapore.
Dalnet, efnet, ircnet undernet is still around. I usually frequent Quakenet but have not gone there for so long.
Usually people now use discord or reddit for focus group interests as alternative.
