MFA Spokesman's Comments on Singaporeans Requiring a Visa to Enter China

In response to media queries on Singaporeans requiring a visa to visit China, the MFA Spokesman said:

"At present, Singapore ordinary passport holders intending to travel to China for a period of 15 days or less do not require a visa. MFA has been informed today by the Chinese authorities that with effect from 1 July 2008, this visa-free facility would be temporarily suspended. Singapore ordinary passport holders would require a visa for entry into China. We have been given the assurance that the visa requirement is a temporary measure. The visa-free facility for travels of 15 days or less would be reinstated after the Beijing Olympics. The Chinese authorities have not informed us of the exact date when the visa-free facility will be reinstated."
