Yes very troublesome indeed. Am comtemplating whether to go China during July and August as I will be in HK/Macau often. Bro oasis3009 has posted on the "New Visa Requirement To China" thread that you can get the visa done hassle free from travel agencies in Chinatown. Costs $10 more at S$35 only!
