I paid RMB 95 on ferry from SZ to ZH early this month. It was on a Saturday afternoon. I had taken this ferry service twice without reservation. Anyway, The ferry departs hourly so the most you wait is just one hour if you missed the first one.
From my experience, there is not necessary to book ferry & hotel in advance to ZH.
