1) check rivera mansion - also one of the cleanest in the block. choose the bedrooms, dont choose the apartels, as the apartels seems a big smelly and all, with the cooking that goes on ..
2) from airport to LA ? why ? you dont need to check in ? Airport to any destination, take the metered taxis, which charge about 300 or so fixed rate. Or walk up to the main road and hail a 'queue' taxi, and make sure the meter runs.
3) airport to Malate / Ermita, if there is no traffic, should be less than 20 or 30 minutes.
4) If you have a girl, make sure she knows the nice places, not the rip-off joints .. no comments on that. You got to be street smart on that. And for food, if you want Singapore food, check out Banana leaf at Robinsons' place. And take a cab to Green Belt/Glorietta (come to think of it, I feel as in Singapore when in Makati area .. all taxis only charge by meter, and no beggers on the street ..
5) Any country is unsafe if you flaunt your money, and walk around the back alleys during night time, and make it a point to start handing over money to the street kids .. Dont take too much money, and just try to use cards in the bars, and keep your valuebles in the safe .. and that's for any country ..
6) From LA or any bar, if you pick up a girl, take the same taxi. Or else you will be subject to another scam (since you asked to be scammed .. ) the girls will ask for a deposit to turn up in your hotel and once you depart, they will be laughing at your ass and your stupidity and go looking for another jon to sucker ..
Walk out, dont take the taxis being touted, take a passing taxi, and tell the guy to switch on the meter, and when you reach the hotel, let the reception know that you have a guest - as some hotels may frown on it, while most other hotels, like Rivera / Executive Mansion etc and palm Plaza and the new cititel (or citadel ?? ) will hold the girl when she leaves, and call for confirmation from you that it is ok to let the girl go off .. Or they will ask the girl to register.

And add on - dont be tempted to rush into super hot girls. Most super hot girls have regular 'western union' partners, and just are wasting their time in the bars, and even when you take them off, they may decide that they dont want sex with you, even after making you spend money. When you see a bad deal, always walk away, and don't think of investing more and more ..
Lastly, not just in LA, even in other bars around there, like Havanas, a lot of 'pimps' claim to own the girls, and there is no bar fine or such shit in Manila - except in P Burgos area. So dont fall for such trap. If the so-called agent is persistant, just pass 200 peso to the girl, and tell her to meet you in your hotel direct.
For that matter, the most important tip - get a philippines SIM card, and preferably, carry with yourself a cheap phone. With a philippines sim, the girl will sure contact you, and same goes for chatting up other girls. No girl in her right mind will want to send an overseas text, considering the cost of living and earning. Many foreigners are happy that they have passed their 'oversea' number to the girls and keep hoping the girl will contact, and this rarely happens, unless the girl is a rare gem who don't care about the 15 peso .. or she is loaded ..
