Let me kaypoh a bit ha. Normally, they don't really use toi and ban. Usually, toi is used when you just know a person, perhaps for the 1st few meetings only then it will progress to anh and em.

For simplicity, anh usually refers to a guy and em refers to a lady. But what Adguy mentioned is the proper method of addressing. I feel that when you sms her, you should use tieng viet instead of tv because she might assume tv to be television.
