How is the Royal Asterdam Hotel?.
Not to sound like moron .. I know people who stay in Shangri Lah Singapore, loose stuff, because they keep money on the table etc .. very rarely reported ... but - If you are not careful, you can't be safe anywhere.

I - myself. Always keep suitcase locked, keep most money there - also hidden inside secret place, and never pull out money in front of girl - find some excuse to send her out like buy something if I need to dip into my secret stash, and always, always, keep my wallet also locked in the cabin suitcase.

One thing I do - when I about to get into the plane, i empty my wallet, and only keep bare minimum stuff in the wallet. And the last few trips, I bought a slimmer wallet and only keep one credit card / atm card and driving license. rest all I lock up and put the other wallet hidden deep.

Always - Be street smart. Even in five star hotel, if you leave money, the housekeeping pocket it you also dont know where you loose it. Same reason even my spare cheap phone - I always lock it - because it is not the phone that is valuable, but the content. (damn, a lot of bar girl contacts there ... )

I once saw a filipino kid in Malate playing with a Singapore IC - God knows where he got it from, and when we tried to ask - he just run off .. saying he just found it on the street (we- me and my Filipina Body guard .. ) And my body guard want to give chase, but I decided to cool off and leave it .. I am sure the kid's father/mother/sister picked it from a careless guy who left his wallet --- and while it may be a souvenir for the kid, only the one who loose it know it's value ..

Also - same reason I prefer to pay bit more, take money in ATM, than to walk around with a lot of money (if a police man want to do body check, and find you have more than his one year salary - he has enough temptation to 'confiscat' the money .. - and sometime you don't know if real police or fake police .. ) Or I go to "safe" Money changer. and change small amount, and as much as possible settle big bills with card. So far - card in Philippines is safe - unlike in Malaysia, and anyway, I only charge on card for things like Dive trip, equipment and hotel ..

And - I keep my expensive HTC phone locked and off, and keep a cheap Nokia for philippine use, and once a day, open the HTC phone and reply sms / and lock it back. Flashy phone = HTC = only 900 $ = more than 4 months pay for most people in place like AC (average factory worker earns less than 6,000 peso - about 200 $ - go figure .. ). Even if they sell for 400 $ that is so much money - I rather not tempt fate by enticing anything.

Reminder again - BE StREeT Smart - don't blame the hotel - blame yourself if you loose stuff. Dont leave things for giving temptation ...

(sorry if my post is long winded .. but the message is loud and clear I guess ... )
