Generally AC is safe. So far no major problem for me traveling alone there.
Just be more careful & alert since you are at other people place. Pick pockets, cheating and stuff may also happen at home.

As I always say, as long as you are not adventerous, or try to save some peso by taking jeepney or trying to take a trike to cheaper whore-joints you are safe .. (come on - if you can't afford 1,500 peso bar fine and want cheaper, you better sign off your assets to me ..

As I found out, once while in Makati, the super-good part of Philippines, while wandering out with a friend, I stumbled upon a part of Palanaan which resembled Tondo at it's worst ..
.. me and my filipino 'bodyguard' felt a bit more than out of place, and we hot-footed out of there .. we couldn't have legged it out faster as almost like on cue, a few trikes started up and virtually were following us, until we hit Makati Ave .. that was scary ... all in the name of listening to a suggestion from a guy who said down Palanaan - there are cheaper girls, i.e. students and so living in dorms ..
