Some parts like your VB says she knows what you are thinking reasonates. My Vb also says she always knows what I am thinking, when in fact, most of the time she is wrong. 
My main takeaway from this is that should I visit her folks, I will prepare some presents from Singapore so that I may not need to go into the awkward part of having to give money to her folks. Maybe senior bros could shed light on this practice.

There was once i ask my wife what to buy as a small gift to her mother since i staying at her house.She say no need but if i want just give her money better.What she like,she buy herself
OK,i think is also more pratical so i say i will give her around $200 sing and she say is ok.I treat it as a hotel stay cost.Sometime when i go,i dont even give a single cents but her mother still treat me good.
It really depends cos like u,i also feel awkard when giving money.But dont be shy if u give like give little bit cos always bear in mind that if her side is good,this little bit of money is only a gesture to them.
Give a lot will spolit them.Always be stingy and poor when approach
