A woman has pleaded guilty to committing incest with her father.

The 24-year-old technician is the first female to be charged under Singapore's incest law.

The woman, 20 years old at the time of the offence, had engaged in carnal intercourse with her father, a 46-year-old plumber, in a flat in the northeast in April 2008.

At the time, the father-daughter pair had returned home from a coffeeshop at about 11pm in the evening.

The two were alone in the house as the father laid on a bed while the daughter leaned against the bed while using her laptop to read email.

The two began quarreling when the woman did not respond to her father's words as she was reading email.

The woman eventually gave in to her father, apologised, and was asked to give her father a hug.

The physical proximity led the two to begin caressing each other, and then to develop carnal relations.

Prior to the incident, the two were known to be close, and the woman had often accompanied her father when he went to coffeeshops for drinks.

The two eventually became very close and would even hug, kiss, and touch each other's private parts.

The matter was eventually discovered when the woman quarreled with her father over her studies and contacted a friend to call the police for her.

She had initially complained that her father had mistreated her, but when police arrived at her home, she said her father had molested her. Her father was arrested as a result. He eventually confessed to the police about the incest.

The man pleaded guilty in January this year and was sentenced to 3 years' jail. He is currently serving his sentence.

His wife has since applied for a divorce, while the daughter, the eldest of three children, has moved out of her home.
