Yes, the PI semester runs for 12 weeks followed by another 12 weeks break before the next semester. But there is a practical reason for that.

In our country we are at the mercy of Mother Nature and with frequent earthquakes, typhoons, floods, eruptions etc. Therefore the chances of the 12 week semester being disrupted is high and when classes are suspended, they will be rescheduled into the 12 weeks break.

This 12 weeks break is also the time when students try to earn money to pay for the next semester. If they cannot pay up they can apply to defer the semester.

I believe only the PI has this system for their education. How do your Singapore Universities run their courses?
