I believed! As I had read about this somewhere before, it mentioned that there could be a slim chance, but not high lor.
So far I'm lucky(4 to 5 year doing that liao, multiple to about 48 to 60 months), but I make sure I count zhun zhun. One thing I believed is sure is that 2 days before the period come, definitely safe, as during this time, the lady womb is not really to accept a fertiled egg lor. So no womb=no baby.
I think your friend may have mis-count, or mis-use the condom,
