First, comparing Batam vs. Thailand is like comparing seafood with meat meals. Too different styles, experiences, environments.
Second, planning a trip based on a short report of 7 years before (you link a report dated 2006?? ) is out of logic. Batam did change a lot since then.
(but if you like the strip bar scene, yes, go to Thailand not to Batam)
