Hi there, before I get accused of being some "high powered" samsters who zap people points, I actually upped your points before. So let's skip the fact I am high powered samster.
Since you brought up something interesting to have a good discussion, please allow me to add me my 2 cents of thoughts.
I have been to all the big ktvs mentioned here in CP, to me really not much diff between Yihao, Ouya and HMTL. Hardware wise I think is also a matter of preferece, better sound system, projection TV vs normal TVs, etc. A lot been said on how HMTL is overpriced on girls and caused girl price increase, etc, so let's skip that.
Let's examine the trends of new KTV open up with my limited knowledge.
When Manhattan KTV first opened, it was the new kid in town. One of the first so call 5 star hotel in SWL area, their KTV opened before hotel even ready. They tried to push what's the real liquor in town, having their whiskeys for eg, chopped with their hotel seal to show it is the real stuff. Real or not I don't, but time shows due to economical reasons/punters can't tell diff, their liquor eventually I think same as rest of CP KTVs. Maybe HMTL can help CP KTVs to push all real liquor by having "guarantees" like other KTVs/Pubs in the bigger cities of china "假酒陪100倍", etc (sorry can't remember the exact words!

When MF opened, it boasted of the most number of working girls and rooms in CP. Nothng really to comment since they have the loyal customer from JY days.
When Ouya first opened, it was the international KTV with the 5 star hardware to go with it. They were the first KTV to consistently raised the price of girls in CP. Many punters hated it, but eventually they have to go Ouya because they have the highest quality of gals. They establised the theory in CP higher prices can attract the chio gals.
When Yihao first opened, a lot of chaos. They tried to fight Ouya but was not successful initially. So their strategy (agents correct me if I am wrong) is to partner with agents to bring in the customers, enforced strict rules on gals like no handphone no fly kite etc. MF tried to follow suit but lack the tenacity of Yihao to enforce the fines. Add to Yihao's advantage is that business in Ouya too good so they enforce the bidding of rooms which drove the min costs up. As a result of gaining reputation as the ktv joint where girls dare not aeroplane clients and no handphone, they became the top 2 ktv and MF business very much affected by Yihao.
Now HMTL opened... they do have very good management people like Joe around. However I believe they currently do not provide something that Ouya and Yihao first opened to attract customers. Call it XXX factor!
1. Increase price of girls (they have to do that to attract the girls, mummies etc), but the result is people saying they are exp. Hell even their own people admit HMTL is exp.
2. Their hardware is comparable only to the big ktvs like Ouya and Yihao. Several bros in this forum also commented nothing diff. So hard to differentiate themselves.
3. Other KTVs like Yihao and Ouya will not be sitting ducks. Whatever HMTL throws out they will follow suit, like increase girl price, reduce girl entrance fee and even throw in some benefits like Ouya gave girls meal box before they start work! Haha. Also now Ouya requires girls to surrender their phones too...
So what can HMTL do to differentiate themselves vs the rest of the competition? I don't know and hope Joe and company can come up with something that benefits us the customers. One thing for sure, other ktvs will not be sitting ducks. Oh on that 15%, if I am not wrong it is 15% for the whole bill. A lot of times KTV discount doesn't apply to hard liquor and only applicable for the amounts above the min spending. I could be wrong.
Maybe Joe can come up with the duty free liquor free of corkerage deal like those he did in Regency.

Actually a lot of KTVs in SZ cater for the locals. Prices cheap cheap services all very good. The girls sitting fee only 200rmb (though for several hours only) and you have the option to bonk them at 100rmb more and 100rmb for room. I agree with you, China is big enough to have places to cheong for people with diff budgets.
