Supposedly if it's an opportunistic sex encounter, it's relatively easy to impregnate / get pregnant. Evolution shapes us this way.
It's as if your body systems know that there is perhaps only one chance to impregnate this female and spread your genes. Somehow everything is geared up to make full use of that one chance. Sperm become more active and swim faster? Unfortunately that is also why rapes and one-night stands often result in pregnancy with only a one-time unprotected encounter.
Versus a female that you have exclusive and repeated rights to have sex with, for example, a girlfriend or wife. Sperm becomes lazy. That is why you hear of married couples being unable to have children despite following the optimum conditions for sex, the timing, position and all, over weeks or months.
