alternative to bangkok

i was supposed to go to bkk for my final trip. however, due to the current escalating political turmoil there, family & friends have been urging me to cancel.
since i have stopover in hk, i'm thinking of skipping my bkk transfer and head to china instead. based on info offered here, still can't decide where - dongguan, changping, panyu, etc. where would you recommend for this 2 week "parole" that's similar to bkk (cheonging activities, price, safety, etc)? Would appreciate all advice/info, as i don't wanna follow family's advice to just visit/stay with relatives in hk
thanks alot.

bro ... since u have a stop-over in hk and 2 wks of holiday ... u can go over to SZ .. then to CA or CP ... last stop in ZH then crossover to macau before taking a ferry to HKIA for ur flight back ..
take some notes from SZ, CA, CP, ZH and Macau threads here ..
many informations, pictures and details to guide u ..

and i can assure u ...
once u step into PRC ... u'll never want to go back to bkk ...

the only inconvenience is u need visa to get into china now but u can apply for it in HK Chinese Embassy ... pay extra and opt for the one day urgent process and u can have ur visa the next day ...

Ok my turn to "preach jesus".

Besides PRC can try HCMC if you can get pass the language barrier. Many gem places to unearthed as not so commercialised like BKK.

Re: alternative to bangkok

adidas88/tony stark,
i've been reading alot of the china threads to look for a backup for bkk (zhuhai seems promising).
but still kinda hard for me to switch, since i'm a hardcore thailand addict.
also, cathay will charge me usd200+, if i cancel the hk-bkk leg.

just horrible timing. one of my other bkk trips that was a bust was back in 2001. i was scheduled to fly out sept. 12th.

bro jwb ... china is not a backup for bkk ... it's a take-over ...

contacted my buddy in bkk last nite ..
he claim situation is not as bad now as what many think ..
but he suggest not to make any trip to bkk during this period ..
the thousand protestors r still hanging out at tyhe government house ...
it will take a lot to remove these crowd and the leaders r not giving ways to each other ...
he's not surprise that a violence breakout between military, police and protestors will happen soon ...
thus if u want to have a enjoyable and peaceful holiday, i suggest u divert ur flight ..
u can demand from cathay airline that situation in bkk is not stable and many countries have already issue travelling advisory .. so they need to do something abt it for their passengers .. i'm sure they r aware abt it ..
even if u have to pay US$200 ... it's better than to end up spoilting ur holiday in bkk ...
phuket airport was closed last wk due to the protest ..
u never know what can happen next in bkk ...

adidas88,
bkk holds a special place in my heart (or is it hard-on)
thanks for the inside info from your friend. my china experience was not that great when i went to guangzhou (tianhe district) last year for 3 days. damm boring. but from the many threads on zhuhai/zhongshan, they might be different. also, i think bkk is less expensive than the southern chinese cities (shenzhen, dongguan, zhuhai, etc).

looks like ur first experience to china was at a wrong province ...
totally agreed with u .... GZ is a much boring place compare with other provinces like CP, CA, SZ, ZH and many others ...
i was there in my previous trip and if my gal did not come along with me, i think i'll die of sex-starvation in GZ ...

not entirely true ... depends on what kind of entertainment u r looking for ..
if u think food & hotel r cheap in bkk .. wait till u see the bill in CP and CA ..
agreed that SZ and ZH expenses r higher but u get better quality ...

Hey friend,

From the way you talked about this BKK trip it seems that you had made up your mind [due to Thai kong Tao, I presumed] so why get yourself confused with the facts ??? [as given by us] Just make a trip there and experience it [if it ever happen]

Re: alternative to bangkok

jwbparty - just go Bangkok la. The situation is really not that bad la. There is a lot of bad press but its Thais vs Thais ; not against other peopl. Also , violence is only at one small part of Bangkok ; which alone is bigger than Singapore!

If you're really worried about the situation , head the 'other side' of the airport and go Pattaya (http://sbfjust.rocks/interna...4-pattaya.html). For me , its better than Bangkok but we all have own own taste.
