Sven bemoans inflated prices
City boss put off English players by price


Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson admits buying the best of British could be beyond his budget.


The Swede is expected to be involved in the January transfer window with chairman Thaksin Shinawatra happy to provide the funds to continue the club's push for Europe.


Eriksson brought eight new faces to Eastlands following his appointment in August, several of whom he had not seen play before.


There may not be such extensive activity this time around, and the expense involved in buying home-grown players could rule out an influx of Englishman.

"It is possible I could bring in someone from England but you have to look at the market," he said.


"The difficulty when you take players from England is the price.


"I bought Javier Garrido (for £1.5million from Real Sociedad) but if we wanted to sign an English alternative, we would be looking at Wayne Bridge or Ashley Cole - and what would the cost be?"
