Thumbs up Is that pack of Thai rice you bought fit for human consumption?

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Sinkies have been brought up since young in the belief that Thai rice is preferred to that from other countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia and India because of its higher quality.

However the quality of Thai rice took a drastic plunge during the Yingluck administration and the former has not recovered since.

Just a few days ago PM Prayut, former head of the military junta, made a startling announcement regarding the quality of Thai rice. (see article below)

P.S.: Rice exporters all over the world are known to engage in centuries’ old practice in which they mix good quality rice with rice of lower quality in order to boost their profit margins.

PM : Only 10 percent of 18 million tonnes of rice in stockpiles are good

Only 10 percent of the 18 million tonnes of rice in stockpiles since June are of good quality and in good condition, 70 percent of them are of poor quality with the grains turn yellowish and the rest 20 percent have become rotten and inedible, said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on Tuesday.

Regarding some 100,000 tonnes of rice which have mysteriously gone missing from the book, the prime minister said that the National Anti-Corruption Commission would investigate the case to ascertain how they had gone missing, where was the mistake and who would be held accountable.

But as far as the government is concerned, the prime minister said the government’s role and responsibility was to take good care of the people and would try to offload the stockpiled rice from the storages but at prices which would not affect the prices of the new rice crops.

General Prayut pointed out at the need of farmers to have their own barn or storage which, he said, to store their crops when the prices are down and to sell them when the prices are right. The rice storages can help stabilize rice prices, he added.
