Permata Indah will be good for 2nd day becos if you are staying in Da Vienna Hotel its within walking distance. You may wish to take a taxi/ojek for MM,Indah2,Bunga,Hawaii and Tulip (Tulip and Hawaii isnt in the map).

I tink wat u post in tis 2 above shld be more than sufficient 4 any new guys to go btm w min trouble. I chg opp formosa. If u follow wat's written on their board & dn't open mouth to ask,everywhere also same rate in btm. Among the row of money chger there,Hai Hai (or rite corner frm front of hotel) is always givin the worst rate in tat area.

ALMOST everywhere in the world, paying with the credit card in a foreign country is more convenient than changing your cash into local currency at exchange offices (using ATM with a debit card is a different story, as ALMOST everywhere in the world the Maestro exchange rate is better than at bank), because:

In Batam, that's not the case.
The exchange offices offer very good rates, at least for SGD and for USD. I think this has to do with the need of foreign cash by local business (they wish foreign CASH and not money transfer, guess why eheh...)
This makes the usage of credit cards less convenient than changing your SGD to IDR then paying cash.

For example, you wrote "today evenin rate is 9650 for one sin$."
In this moment, I read on Yahoo 1 SGD = 9644.45 IDR and on XE (updated real time) 1 SGD = 9648 IDR, nearly the same as your rate (there is a difference between the rate to BUY and the rate to SELL).
This means that, approximately, if you pay by credit card your exchange rate would be roughly 9500 (losing 1.5% compared to your 9650 rate for cash).

Unless you don't pay a big amount, the difference is small (few dollars on a hotel bill after a week stay) and should be not a reason to give up the comfort of electronic payments.
HOWEVER, in Batam not many accept credit cards, except hotels, important shops or restaurants, KTV, pubs, etc.

In conclusion, I always use cash except when I checkout at Formosa
